Based on the work of Maria de Buenos Aires by Astor Piazzolla
Arranged by Fabio Barnaba
TangOpera: An interpretation of Maria de Buenos Aires
Maria de Buenos Aires was born in the suburbs of Buenos Aires. Lured to the city by its music and dance (tango), she survives as a prostitute. There she encounters the crimes, the darkness and danger it holds, and yet its fascination. Her unsolved murder is investigated by “friends” as questionable as the city itself, and the circumstances around Maria’s death. The story is told through the unforgettable music of Piazzolla, the tango, and his music/dance/opera interpretation, the nuevo tango. A parallel to a country rich in musical culture - Argentina, as rich as Italy an unforgettable piece performed and interpreted in two musical cultures.
