The Portland Youth Philharmonic is 98 years young!
It is the oldest, continuously running youth philharmonic in the United States providing endless opportunities and support for young musicians of today and tomorrow.
Established in 1924 through the pioneering work of Mary V. Dodge, and a group of visionary citizens, the Portland Junior Symphony Association, later renamed the Portland Youth Philharmonic Association. From then, through now, the role of this youth orchestra, and its model for arts education and outreach, has provided the structure and learning for youth orchestras globally.
Its inspiring and inclusive nature ensures access to arts opportunities for all learners in the Portland Community and beyond.
